happy New Year to all of my favorite people! it is so good to hear that all is well with you. Hi Ellie and Carolyn. Sad to hear of Janice she was a good friend for many years. Pat and I came to Donner Lake to ski for two weeks and found our home here with one inch of ice on the bathroom floor!! The problem was a faulty shutoff valve that allowed water to come back into the system so it froze up and the shower head sprayed water for many weeks onto the floor. Now we are looking at removing floors , walls, sheetrock, etc. What a way to start the new year. Now I have to deal with a timeline for repairs in the winter time. Dave amd Rosemary just to9 let you know that Bill, Robyn, Pat and I are heading for a trip on the Mississippi from New Orleans up to Baton Rouge in April so we will getin touch with you. Maybe we can hook up. Hurray for USC. Too bad they lost to Cal . That's alll for now from the frozen northen Calif.

Wayne,::::Wow, what a shock to find your home with water and ice all over . . . We did not know what to expect when the earthquake hit over at the coast. We went over the next weekend to check out our mobile home and everything was OK. I guess we should check with Patty about California's 4 season's insurance . . . Earthquakes, fire, mudslides and whatever the 4th one is. By way with what Ohio State did to Iowa State and if Oklahoma wins and USC already having beat another Big 10 team I know that the Bowl computer system will say it is a 4 way tie for the top team. Dave by the way who are you going to root for in the little game coming up?::::JimG::::

Jan 3, 2004 at 09:41:11 JimG (Tulare)
OK, OK . . . Just a slight memory moment . . . I should have said Kansas State instead of Iowa State losing to Ohio State. Well BillyC should be hooting over his Beloved Buckeyes.::::JimG::

Jan 3, 2004 at 14:43:19 Dave (Baton Rouge)
Hi Jim, I see they have the national championship trophy here in Louisiana to present to the winner of the championship game. Number three USC may have won the AP popularity contest by beating the number four team in a minor bowl, but they didn't make it to the big game. The reason is, they played a easy schedule. This will cause a tie in the title. It's like 1974 when Oklahoma and USC spite. OK won the AP and SC won the UPI because OK was on NCAA probation! How are the teams USC beat doing in their bowl games? I notice Georgia, Arkansas and Mississippi all won. LSU had to beat Georgia twice. The bottom lines. I'm rooting for Fresno State ( Too bad USC got past UCLA!)and nobody gives a damn what two old men think.

Jan 3, 2004 at 16:09:15 Patty (Chanute, Kansas)
Jim... That 4th one you're looking for on the Insurance is::"Wind & Hail". Sure would like to write you guys a Policy, but you'd ALL have to move to KANSAS. And Wayne, remember the Ole Saying, Lousey Start = Good Finish!! So hopefully all will go okey on your repairs and the rest of 2004. Happy New Year To Everyone.::Patty

Jan 4, 2004 at 09:47:37 JimG (Tulare)
Dave, ::::Your right, Fresno State is the one . . . Just a short note that a Corcoran alum is playing 1st string linebacker at FSU. He was a walk on, his name is Todd Garcia, son of Richard Garcia who own's the Chevy dealership in Corcoran.::::JimG::

Jan 5, 2004 at 12:16:45 Bill Rose (Columbia, MO)
Looks like LSU has the best defense in the country. What a mess the BCS has created. Sure adds fire to having another game to determine the final #1, but is that really important for these students ????? IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

Jan 6, 2004 at 13:34:39 Dave (Baton Rouge)
This place really has some temperature swings. It was 78º on Sunday afternoon and the forecast tonight is 23º. Patty: Do they have wind and hail damage in Kansas? Our insurance man was here this morning to look at our hail damaged roof. He determined it damaged and has agreed to pay for the replacement. Wayne and Bill: The best place to visit in this area is Natchez. There are houses in Natchez that cost hundreds of thousand of dollars to build before the civil war. The people went to Europe to buy the furniture. Much of the original furnishing are still in the houses.

Jan 6, 2004 at 15:31:45 jacque, (San Luis Obispo)
David, You're going to have the whole class asking for a tour of Baton Rouge, Natchez, and New Orleans ( Narlins). Maybe we should schedule a mini reunion soon in La.? Hail, frozen pipes & flooded rooms, what next? I think I prefer 20 seconds of pure terror once every 20 years or so. Not a brick fell out of the fireplace/bbq, 1 picture frame fell off the shelf. The pool table light looked like a giant swing for a minute or so and John jumped out of his chair like a young man and headed for the door...he forgot all about using his walker or cane. Now he can't use the knee as an excuse.

Jan 6, 2004 at 21:33:39 Patty (Chanute, Kansas)
Dave,::Kansas has Wind & Hail Insurance for the coverages we have on all the Tornados & Heavy Winds with lots of Hail instead of just rain. Our Spring & Summers are real busy in our office paying out losses for all our insureds that are effected by this type of tragedy. We paid out about $200 Thousand in a little town of Humboldt(About 5,000 people) May of 2003, 7 miles from Chanute, for just the Hail losses alone. As you can see it is a real important coverage to a policy. Hope none of my Classmates ever have to use it. See Ya, Patty

Jan 7, 2004 at 08:15:20 JimG (Tulare)
Hi Everyone,::::Jacque . . . Don't go to Parkfield because I believe it is famous for being the Earthquake Capital of California (maybe the world for all I know). Patty I checked my insurance on our mobile home for earthquake protection and low and behold we have it . . . Now I know why I didn't have any damage. Bill I noticed Dave changed the subject to weather rather than the BCS. Sobeit . . . LSU did look good and all the top teams look like they have very young players. Wayne/Bill you don't suppose Cal might slip in there next year?::::JimG::

Wow, What Happened here? I go out of the country for a few days, and all of a sudden, new people are popping up all over the place. Hi Carolyn, Long time no see. Hi Ellie, It's nice to see you on-line now. JimG, I am not a Buckeye fan. My senior year there I had season tickets on the 45 yd line, 7th row from the bottom. Couldn't see a thing from either 35 yd line. The Buckese's suitup all their players for homegames, and they stand on the benches. But I did get to see Miss Universe 1971 and one of the games. The Buckeyes had their worst year since 1902 I think. I preferred the Yalies, their games were much more fun to watch. Spent Christmas at Marrakesh, and New Year's eve in Lisbon with the DL and 3 Cuban/Miami girls named Rodrigues. Saw lots of fireworks. Got home last night at 10:30 pm. Had my wallet stolen 1/5/04. Had a voicemail from my sister, Betty. My mom passed away Xmas day, was buried on New Years Eve, the day after her 93rd birthday. She had suffered from Alzheimers for years. I missed her Funeral, along with my sister, Dana. Apparently the Flu/Pneumonia outbreak took her. More on the trip next time.

Jan 7, 2004 at 20:12:15 Ellie (North Fort Myers)
Yesterday was beach day! My son Peder has a home on Sanibel and I have the key. Foolhardy move. So occasionally I go for the cure. There is nothing like calling a friend and spending a day on the beach. The minute you hit the causeway (which is a beautiful site) you're in another world flying with the pelicans, egrets, herons and all the other majestic birds around the island. The beach was almost deserted because there is always a lull after the holidays, but the odd tourist was out collecting shells or fishing. The weather was made to order around 79 with a gulf breeze and the sun was warm and comforting. I had a minor medical procedure on Monday and that's why I had to head for the beach. It's like therapy! Then ,of course, nothing goes better with a day like this than a couple drafts and 2 doz. oysters,on ice. There's a local restaurant called the Lazy Flamingo and everyone is known by name. They have the best seafood and it's typical old Florida style. Have I sold you yet? 15 minutes from my house. And you say there's snow up north? Hey Gang, I spent my time freezing 34 years of it. I loved it at the time and it's a beautiful country but these last 12 years in Fl. have been a lot easier and it really spoils one. Gentlemen, good luck on your football! I'm still as ignorant as ever about sports. Who's playing in the Superbowl or did I miss it? And Ladies, I think we deserve equal time sharing recipes, sewing, hobbies, etc. Wouldn't that just put a knot in their tail! I'm only kidding guys. Be kind to each other and be well. Billy, welcome home. Wear a cap W.C. MY thoughts are with you. It truly is wonderful to touch base with you all. I definitely feel part of the group now thanks to technology. Ellie

Jan 8, 2004 at 06:51:48 BRAD (VISALIA)
GOOD MORNING CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS. BILLY, I'M SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR MOM AND SISTER. IT SEEMS LIKE THESE KIND OF THINGS ARE HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. TODAY WE ARE GOING TO THE FINAL SERVICE FOR MY BROTHER-IN-LAW, GARY GUNDERMAN, WHO WAS MARRIED TO MY SISTER CHARLOTTE. IT'S GOOD TO SEE ALL THE COMMENTS. WAYNE, IF I WAS CLOSER, I WOULD BE GLAD TO HELP. ELLIE, YOUR COMMENTS ARE LIKE READING A BOOK. GOOD USE OF WORDS AND DESCRIPTIONS. I DO HAVE AN OPINION IN THE COLLEGE NATIONAL CHAMPION, BUT IT'S LIKE BELLY BUTTONS, EVERYBODY HAS ONE. I HOPE ALL OF YOU ARE WELL. LOOKING FORWARD TO NOVEMBER. IT WILL BE HERE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT. LOVE BRAD

Jan 8, 2004 at 10:44:21 Dave (Baton Rouge)
One last time! What a mess the AP has created with the football national championship. If you look at nothing else but the AP poll, you will find LSU defeated No.3 Oklahoma, No. 7 Georgia (twice) and No. 13 Mississippi. USC defeated No. 6 Michigan and No. 9 Washington State. LSU played in two championship games and won both. USC didn't play in any. The NFL scouts say LSU and Oklahoma are better than USC. LSU is 13-1. USC is 12-1. LSU defense is No. 1 in the nation and defeated the No. 1 offense. USC is No. ? in offense and No. ? in defense. Sports writers: I see where Sports Illustrated will have 3 different covers Jan 12. LSU's the 1 for Louisiana and Mississippi; California will get a version with USC winning the AP popularity poll and the rest of the nation will get a Pete Rose "I'm not a crook" cover. Enough!! Does anyone know how to make good brownies?

Jan 9, 2004 at 06:40:34 Dave (Baton Rouge)
Today I sent a email all the members that had a known address. I had 3 out of the 43 returned. Jacque, B. Brown and M. Baker. Need a new addresses for them.

Class of '56 Pismo Mini-Reunion The planning for the mini-reunion to be held Nov 1-2 this year is coming along. Betty and Sid have asked me to pass along the information. We are looking at very casual time, no dress up, get together. We need some input if any of you would like a sit down dinner while we are there. A block of room, including a hospitality room, has been reserved at the Spyglass Inn on the North side of Pismo Beach. You can make reservations now by calling 1-800-824-2612. The price is $79.00. Reservation should be made long before Oct 1st. They have a web site at http://www.spyglassinn.com. We have a little more information on the picnic. There is a park a block away from the beach and Nate Marshall will do Bar-B-Que. There is talk of doing breakfast at the Coffee Pot in Morro Bay. The Coffee Pot is normally closed in November, but will open for the class. Golf arrangements are being looked at. There is an outlet mall and lots of antique shops in the area. We can do horseshoes and volleyball on the beach. I'm sure there will be dominos. The hospitality room will provide a place to just sit and talk. Betty and Sid said they will welcome any input for the mini-reunion. If you hope to attend, let me know and I'll add your name to the "Hope To" list on the site.::

Jan 9, 2004 at 13:53:46 Dave (Baton Rouge)
Just updated the address list. I found the mistake I made in Jacque's email address. Thanks to Barbara, I've added Harold Hagler email address.

Jan 9, 2004 at 19:49:07 Dave Again (Baton Rouge)
The "Hope List" for the mini-reunion is on the bottom of the 2004 page of the EVENTS section.

Jan 10, 2004 at 12:48:23 Ellie (Ft MYers, Fl.)
Yes David, there is a Santa Claus! I know how to make Good Brownies. They are the biggest, thickest, gooiest, chewiest, darkest, mostest of the most chocolate bars with an almost wet middle and a crisp-crunchy top. Absolutely sinful. Pardon me Brad. Bye, Ellie

Jan 11, 2004 at 06:41:43 BRAD (VISALIA)
GOOD MORNING ALL. ELLIE, SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING WE WILL NEED IN PISMO. I'LL HAVE TO COUNT TO SEE IF I HAVE THAT MANY ADJECTIVES IN MY VOCABULARY. I WAS GOING TO SUGGEST TO DAVE THAT I COULD GIVE HIM A RECIPE FOR SOME GOOD FUDGE, BUT, MAYBE I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO LIKES IT. MOST OF YOU HAVE HAD SOME OF IT. ANYWAY, I HOPE ALL OF YOU ARE FEELING GOOD. EXPECT SOMETHING GOOD FROM GOD TODAY. LOVE BRAD

Jan 13, 2004 at 10:34:27 Dave (LoUiSiAna)
Hi, Ellie sent me an excellent item about the value of being an American. You have to see it. It is a little graphic. There are some images I've never seen before. Click on the link on the guest book page and turn on your speaker. I'm sure Ellie's mom or dad could have told us the price of freedom. Also Ellie, anyone can say they make the best brownies. The real proof is the eating. We are on our way to help the jump start the economy of the poor people on the Mississippi gulf coast.

Jan 13, 2004 at 13:55:33 Derek (Alameda)
Wow, what a powerful message. Thank you Ellie, thank you Dave. All is fine here in Alameda... Derek

Jan 13, 2004 at 20:43:19 Ellie (Ft. Myers, Fl.)
David, Ah Hah! And all along I nievely thought that you wanted a recipe but You only want Brownies. So with all due respect, I'll see you in Pismo and if all goes well, I might have a little something for you. How about those Eagles.

Jan 13, 2004 at 20:49:12 ellie (ft. myers, Fl.)
help! how is it that I always get double messages on this guest book thing?

Jan 14, 2004 at 20:25:44 Dave (Baton Rouge)
Hi Everyone, Entries to the guest book becomes doubled if you return to the "blue page" that comes up when you click on "Sign GuestBook". You need to close this page when it first comes up using the X in the upper right hand corner of the "blue page" and don't use the return button. When you close the page, then click on the "GuestBook" link of the "Add Guest" page. When you do that the "blue page" is taken out of the circuit. Ellie may I please have your brownie recipe.

Jan 15, 2004 at 22:49:23 WCROW (truckee/palm desert)
Wow!!Ellie the website you sent really hitme. I thought my screen was dirty but it was just my eyes. Thanks for the reminder of who we are. I think I could have been a lawyer after locking horns with my insurance company over the water/ice/mold damage to my house in Donner Lake, I won the case. They will pay the bill afterall. It will be 7-10 grand when all is finished. Ellie you should take up vacatio writing. Very well done on the beach scene, I have bags packed now.I can't make brownies but I am an excellent judge for a taste contest. I am partial to those with nuts inside. Enough talk of football lets turn our attention to the super bowl of fun and BROWNIES. I just finished reading The King of Calif and it should make for some good talks in the hospitality room. Stay safe and healthy. WC

Jan 16, 2004 at 02:55:37 Derek (Alaameda)
Dave. You should know that a recipe from Ellie won't ensure you a good brownie...You need Ellie to read it...Hello everyone...Derek

Jan 16, 2004 at 03:14:58 Derry (Alameda)
OK so I stu-stu-stutter

Jan 16, 2004 at 09:14:58 JimG (Tulare)
Hi everyone,::::Ellie, that was a great way to start the day watching and listening to our heroes. Amazing how all the passages in the early beginning of our country apply to today!::::By the way I want to know what Ellie has been putting in those Brownies that must be a cureall. I might find out if I get in line in front of WC.::::Wayne, glad you whupped the insurance challenge. I also noticed Mel and Elaine Jones are on the going list. Alright, you know Arlene and Elaine need some help from you other girls in playing golf in Pismo.::::JimG::

Jan 18, 2004 at 21:01:00 Ellie (Ft. Myers, FL.)
After much deliberation and discussion with those who are discussable and considering the remunerative possibilities not to mention the effort involved by all and sundrie, I, hereby, devote the next hour to hunting and pecking the following for the benefit of our dear friends who,no doubt, have patiently waited for this calorie hit of all time. (so many words, so little said) David, this one's for you, kickoff time! PALM BEACH BROWNIES 8 oz. unsweetened chocolate: 8 oz. sweet butter; 5 eggs XL; 1tbsp.vanilla extract; 1 tsp. almond extract, 1/4 tsp. salt; 21/2 tbsp. instant expresso dry or instant coffee; 3 3/4 cups granulated sugar; 1 2/3 cups sifted all-purpose flour; 8 oz. walnut halves or large pieces. assembly_- to be continued.........__________

Jan 21, 2004 at 13:39:12 Dave (Baton Rouge)
Ellie, how long do I leave these ingredients laying out on the cabinet? I'm worrying about the butter and eggs. The coffee can't stay fresh this long and the stupid cat ate the chocolate. More about the November picnic: The Coffee Pot in Morro Bay is closed in December and not November. Of course you can go there on your own.

Jan 21, 2004 at 14:22:40 Ellie!1 (Ft. Myers)
David - I had hoped you wouldn't notice or one of the ladies would come in on this and offer up their recommendations, but they're probably occupied with more meaningful tasks as such as I was just moments ago with the screen man mending the cage and the vacuum going, the dog barking etc. But-----since it's you and all those ingredients are sitting on the counter, if I were Rosemary, I'd probably run you out of the kitchen. There's one good thing that came from this.::The cat ate the chocolate! That's 3 times the antioxidents compared to bracolli. ::So it's never a lost cause. Yes, I'll be back to you ina minute. I have to bake for my son's meals on wheels delivery tomorrow. He's working and I worry how he feeds himself so I runout to Sanibel and deliver on Thursdays. It's not exactly feeding the poor or infirm, cause I feed the infirm on Tues. and Fri. I think the young and middle aged have forgotten what a home-cooked meal is. Lest we forget

Jan 21, 2004 at 14:43:27 BillyC (IN/OH)
Time really flies when you're having fun, or the temp is below freezing all the time. This afternoon it is up to 33 degrees. I can't really complain, my son in MA is going through really cold weather, here it is only a little cold. The DL and I had a great time in Spain, Morocco, and Portugal over her winter break. We had three families from Orange County, and two from Fresno on our trip with us, plus people from Canada, three groups from Australia, Bermuda and South Africa. And three Cuban girls from Miami, one of whom the DL is bound to get tied up with our son in MA. Spain is really nice, I could spend a lot more time there, five days in Morocco was enough, except for Casablanca - we didn't have enough time there but it is a more European atmosphere rather than Moroccan. Portugal was more like Spain - not much different except for the language, which again wasn't much different. The DL is now taking Spanish lessons, and a trip to Mexico for the Spring vacation is planned. We got to see the Tagus River in Toledo and in Lisbon. Much like the Kaweah and the Amazon in comparison. We saw 2003 become 2004 at Lisbon's celebration, with 3 Cubans, 2 Spaniards, and 3 Taiwanese + a whole gaggle of Portuguese. It was my first time a a celebration like that - quite interesting. Spent Christmas in Marrakesh, they even had a very skinny Santa walking around passing out candies. We're running out of warm places to go for Xmas break, maybe next year we'll go to Tahiti or Hawaii.

Jan 21, 2004 at 16:50:36 Ellie (Ft. Myers Fl.)
Welcome home!! Wow, what a trip you had. My feet hurt just reading about it. Will we see any snaps?

Jan 21, 2004 at 22:49:59 BillyC (IN/OH)
That was just a rough sketch. Yes, I do have pictures, too, just haven't burned them to a CD yet. I have them downloaded to my hard drive. I just wish I could unlock my Reno pictures also. That'll wait until I get my new computer in a couple of months, or I can talk one of the sons into getting it for me. They want a Dell, I want an HP. When I get the pictures burned, I will send them for you to see, if you want them. This was the first trip the DL admitted that my pictures came out better than hers from her funny camera. That's really new. Now she wants me to take the video camera nexttime. OH well, what's a little more weight to carry around.

Jan 23, 2004 at 15:46:58 Ellie (Ft. Myers Fl.)
Icicles hanging off my bikini!! But I have my trusty touque. ::What's a Touque you ask? It's Canadian for a Wooly Cap with pom-pom on top, Symbolic of the northland and sometimes can be seen in Minnesota.::::David, I'm ready to send in my dues and I'm sure there are others who feel the same. Where was the designated place??::::::::::

Jan 24, 2004 at 20:22:53 Dave (B Rouge)
Dues! I don't remember who was in charge of collect or how much it was. If anyone knows, post it here. I guess for the picnic in November, bring the money with you and pay as you go. Ellie, once you write in the add guest and click on "Sign Guest Book" you can no longer make changes. There is no review. The only thing I can do is delete a entire item.

Jan 24, 2004 at 23:37:03 BRAD (VISALIA)
HELLO CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS. THE SUGGESTION WAS MADE BY WAYNE THAT WE CHIP IN $15/ YEAR/ CLASSMATE. THE MONEY GOES TO OUR CLASS TREASURER, VERA. AT LEAST, THAT IS THE WAY I REMEMBER IT. LOVE BRAD

Jan 25, 2004 at 13:12:53 Ellie (Florida)
Yes, Brad, that's how I heard it too, so I e-mailed Vera but I got no answer. Since I really don't trust myself yet that everything I send gets through, and that may be a blessing,::I wonder if someone else might try to confirm.

Jan 25, 2004 at 20:35:00 Betty (Visalia)
It is great to hear from everyone. Ellie, after the holidays and a weeks vacation in D.C. & New York, my jeans are getting is little tight reading your Brownie Receipt. Last week I stepped off the plane in New York to 7 degrees. I have never been so cold. The next day it was 17 and beautiful. We had a great time. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Pismo. Still need your input. We want to have a very casual fun time. ::Sorry to hear all the sad news. Thats the real reason to enjoy everyday, we never know what tommorrow will bring.::::Take care all,::Betty

Jan 25, 2004 at 23:20:22 BillyC (In/Oh)
Wow. Wow. All kinds of people are writing now. It's sure nice to hear from more people on here now. Betty, I'm glad you guys finally got to feel some low digit weather. I know I was surprised in Korea the first time it reached single digits, then it dropped below zero and stayed there from the middle of November until March. Dave and those guys down South sent some nasty weather this way last night. First snow, then sleet, then freezing rain. Freezing rain when the temperature is only 21 is really nasty. Ellie, the icicles on the bikinis here were about 21 inches long. The first time I've seen the Cincinnati Public Schools announce a closure the night before, they usually wait until 4:00 am to announce their closures. Fortunately, in about 4 weeks, this will all be behind us.::

Jan 27, 2004 at 10:30:39 Bill Rose (Columbia, MO)
Good Morning....It's 13° with 5 inches of snow on the ground in Columbia. Wish I had headed south two weeks ago. Went out to let the dog out and our driveway had already been cleared. Oh the joys of living in a subdivision where all your yard maintenance is taken care of by the association.

Jan 27, 2004 at 20:20:19 Ellie (Florida)
Better yet, my friend, is having no snow!!! How are you and yours?? Hope to see you at Pismo. Ellie

Jan 28, 2004 at 08:47:27 Dave (Baton Rouge)
What a lucky day. I have received a message from a gentleman who had to flee his home in Zimbabwe taking with only 16 million dollars US. To assist him with getting the money into a US bank he is giving me over half the money. The letter was will written and only had 8% misspelled words. Isn't that great.

Jan 28, 2004 at 11:16:32 Bill Rose (Columbia, MO)
And just how much money do you have to put in a special account as "good trust money"? WHAT A DEAL

Jan 28, 2004 at 12:59:20 Patty (Chanute, Ks.)
Dave & Rosemary,::What a Wonderful Blessing!!!!::Love, Patty

Jan 29, 2004 at 09:01:13 JimG (Tulare)
Dave/Rosemary::::All you have to do is send the man your bank account number and he will deposit your share in it . . . After he does that we can all go to Chumash Casino over by Pismo . . . Wow Rosemary look at all the coins you can play in those machines with your new found fortune!::::JimG::

Jan 29, 2004 at 09:21:01 Dave (Baton Rouge)
Wouldn't you know, another fortune lost. I got so excited, I deleted the gentleman's email. I guess the slots will have to wait A few days before some other con..I mean..Gentleman emails me.

Jan 29, 2004 at 09:43:44 Ellie (Florida)
You mean I have to unpack, Turn the water back on and reverse the mail? BOO-HOO !!!!!

Jan 30, 2004 at 08:04:35 Dave (Baton Rouge)
I got a email from Jacque saying she is having problem getting on the site because of the , I think, drop down menu's. Is anyone else having problems? I guess if you were you wouldn't be reading this. Tell me what you think of the drop down menu.

Jan 30, 2004 at 08:53:25 BRAD (VISALIA)
GOOD MORNING CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS, DAVE, I'M SORRY YOU LOST YOUR OPPORTUNITY. THAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET TOO EXCITED. DON'T WORRY THOUGH, I'LL SEND YOU ANOTHER ONE IN A FEW DAYS. I ALSO HAVE A BRIDGE FOR YOU IN BROOKLYN THAT I'M SURE YOU'LL WANT. AS FOR THE DROP-DOWN, IT WORKS FOR ME. WE HAVE ANOTHER GREAT DAY TO LOOK FORWARD TO. GOD BLESS, LOVE BRAD

Jan 30, 2004 at 11:09:03 Bill Rose (Columbia, MO)
Dave,::::Drop down works for me, at least I guess it does as I don't seem to be missing anything. Keep up the good work.

Jan 30, 2004 at 12:12:17 Patty (Chanute, Ks)
Dave, So far I haven't had any trouble with the Drop-Down. Just took me a bit to make the change after being so use to the other way. Now, if you get to much more fancier, I'll probably have to start sending my notes with a 37 cent stamp and send them by US Mail. When I call my boys on a Computer problem, they keep telling me, "Mom, Did You Keep The Box".::

Jan 31, 2004 at 12:58:05 wcrow (palm desert)
Wow,so many thoughts to read . We are back in sunny Palm Deset where it is abot 68 today. I thought the dues were to be a voluntary $15 to be sent to Vera . I will do that today.I have purchased a new notebook Toshiba and upgraded to AOL 9.0 and so I am having some problems with finding all of my files, favorites, etc. Looks like I will have to start over. I talked with a techie in Banglasesh, Pakistan, or somewhere yesterday and she assured me-bery,bery much that I would have no problem, I just couldn't undersand what she was saying to me. I had a third visit to the doctor to remove more of the bad spot on my pate andI sure hope this is the last time. The bald head is going tobe covered up by the side hair pulled up tight. Nice to know you are all well and still writing. Time to go loose some more golf balls.

A man had great tickets for the Super Bowl. As he sits down, another man comes down and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him. "No," he says. "The seat is empty." "This is incredible!" said the man. "Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in the world, and not use it?" He says, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. My wife was supposed to come with me, but she passed away. This is the first Super Bowl we haven't been to together since we got married." "Oh ... I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else - a friend or relative, or even a neighbor to take the seat?" The man shakes his head. "No. They're all at the funeral."

Wow, what to say? I'm really impressed, there are people writing in this thing, I'm getting behind, or something. But now I will have the first post in 2/04 I feel better. I can't believe it, we are supposed to hit 40 degrees today, Saturday night was -12. I need to get my shorts out. Unfortunately, my bikini no longer fits, it's too big.

Ooops. I forgot, Dave - the drop downs cause no problem here, it's just those gremlims that keep moving the keys to different places on the keyboard that kause me prolbmes.

GOOD MORNING BOYS AND GIRLS, I RAN ACROSS AN IQ TEST THIS MORNING I THOUGHT WAS FUN. I SCORED 1 POINT HIGHER THAN MY SCORE IN HIGH SCHOOL. I WAS QUITE SUPPRISED. YOU CAN FIND IT @ http://web.tickle.com/tests/uiq/authorize/register.jsp?url=/tests/uiq/processing.jsp IF YOU HAVE TIME, TRY IT. REMEMBER, IT IS AN ADVERTISEMENT, BUT IT IS FREE. I HOPE YOU ARE ALL DOING WELL. LAST NIGHT I MADE A BATCH OF FUDGE (I KNOW, CHOCOLATE IS SINFUL), BUT, I JUST HAD TO HAVE SOME. HAVE A GREAT DAY. LOVE BRAD

Feb 3, 2004 at 09:14:13 Ellie (Fla.)
Brad, I'd like to try it as soon as I learn to transfer the address to the search bar. I'm learning but it's not coming at me by Osmosis. Had my second class at library.

Feb 6, 2004 at 17:03:27 BillyC (Not Sure)
Well, the temp went way up to almost 40 today. When I went out to go to breakfast, I rushed out and smashed the rear window on my car - $328.00. Tuesday when I went out, I pushed the button on my key chain to unlock the car, and I pulled the handle off - it was only 14 that day -$238.00. I was lucky when I got to Toyota over in Cinci, they said it would take 3-4 days to get the part in and sent me to the Parts Dept. They had the part in stock that someone else ordered in January and never came in to get it, so they let me have it, literally and figuretively. $75.00 for a door handle and 2.5 hours to install it. I promise not to wreck my car again (until the next time).

Billy C ::::Maybe you should just park the car . . . Sounds like it would be a lot cheaper! Or maybe just wait 'til summer.::If you just drive in the summer you could buy a rag top!::::JimG::

Billy, Take the Bus!

Feb 9, 2004 at 09:16:58 BillyC (Afoot)
Ellie, have you ever lived in smaller town than Corcoran. There is no bus here. If it snows in Indianapolis, they shut the schools down, and make it a snow emergency. I think the car gods are trying to make up for a boring past.

Feb 10, 2004 at 16:12:16 Ellie (Fla.)
Well, I was in Elwood Indiana once for a day. Reminded me of our beloved Corcoran. And I happen to have a collection of St. Clair Glass which has been for sale for years. That must mean something,Billy.

Feb 10, 2004 at 16:33:04 BillyC (IN)
Yes, it means something, plus you've been to Bluffton, OH, also, so that has double meaning.

Feb 11, 2004 at 18:57:23 David (Baton Rouge)
So far, we have 27 individuals that are planning to attend the picnic in Pismo. Two have registered at the Inn. Take a look go to Events, then 2004. After a long search of the internet, I discovered that St. Clair Glass was made in Elwood, IN. I haven't been able to determine why anyone would want to go to Bluffton, OH. or a connection between Bluffton and Elwood. Unless it's like Barstow, CA. and everyone has to stop there. It has been raining here since early yesterday and they expect it to continue for a couple of more days. However, four days of rain is not unusual here. Louisiana is the only place I've been where you can find live fish in mud puddles

Hi All,::Just a note to let you know that we should be able to go back home tomorrow from Overland Park Regional Hospital in K.C. And hopefully I will be able to get back in the Classmate Groove again. Darold has been having trouble for a couple weeks with his Heart and he went in last Thursday and had 1 Stint put in his Heart and then had to go back a couple days later and have 3 more Stints put in. The reason they had to wait was because of a Kidney Malfunction. Two years ago he had 1 Stint put in after having a 3-Way By-Pass done, so now he has a total of 5-Stints to go along with that. Guess he'd better keep away from any Magnets!!! He is doing real good now, but it was a little tramatic on the last 3-Stints, because they ran into some trouble at the top of his heart, and he had a small heart-attack, but Thank God, he was already on the table. His Heart is now in real good shape, Thanks To Modern Medicine & Great Doctors, and hopefully he'll feel like a "Young Teenager" again. We've been away for over a week now & real anxious to get back home and in the Groove again. Well Wishes To All Of You, Patty

Feb 12, 2004 at 05:32:07 BRAD (VISALIA)
GOOD MORNING CLASSMATES, HOPE EVERYONE OS WELL. PATTY, IT'S GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU. SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT DAROLD, BUT GLAD HE HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. HE IS IN MY PRAYERS (AS ALL OF YOU ARE). I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING HIM IN PISMO THIS YEAR. WOW, THREE REUNIONS TO LOOK FORWARD TO: 11/04, FALL/06, AND 2056. I HOPE ALL OF YOU ARE PLANNING TO GO SEE MEL GIBSON'S MOVIE "THE PASSION" THAT WILL BE STARTING FEB. 25TH IN THEATERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. BLESSINGS TO ALL, HAVE A GREAT DAY, LOVE BRAD

Patty, Glad to hear that Darold is doing well. I'm sure there has been a lot of stress with all the medical attention. Our recent weather conditions probably added to your problems. Good that you guys are home and enjoying life.

Feb 12, 2004 at 12:15:57 Betty Grant (Visalia)
Good Morning everyone from sunny Visalia, Calif. Beautiful weather here today, bright sunshine. We just got back home from a trip to Vegas. We went to see Celine Dion. We went to pick up tickets, her show had been canceled due to illness. First time in 14 yrs. she had to cancel. Just our luck. So I guess we will just have to plan another trip.::Glad to see a good response to our mini reunion.::I saw Don Gilkey at a bar-b-que last night, he is doing well, having some problems, but he played golf yesterday and they were making a trip to Palm Desert today. He doesn't drive any longer. His son, Kirk, drives them in their motorhome. He told me Louie Florence was in the hospital, he has a heart problem, but he was doing well. He as moved to Tulare as well as Linden Crow. ::Good to hear from everyone, hope all is well.::::Have a good day,::Betty Grant

Feb 14, 2004 at 08:12:49 BRAD (VISALIA)
GOOD MORNING BOYS AND GIRLS. I REMEMBER IN SCHOOL WHEN WE USED TO TAKE A VALENTINE CARD FOR EVERYONE IN THE CLASS. IT WAS A FUN DAY. TODAY, WE HAVE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF MEDIA, SO, VIA INTERNET, I WISH YOU ALL A VERY SPECIAL VALENTINE'S DAY. ELLIE, THANKS FOR THE REMINDER, BUT, ON MARCH 23RD, I WILL HAVE 48 MARRIED YEARS WITH THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN AN IMPORTANT DATE YET. I HOPE I GO HOME BEFORE I DO. LOVE YOU ALL. GOD BLESS, BRAD

Feb 15, 2004 at 10:10:04 Ellie (Cloudy, Fla.)
Valentines Day was always special with the girls. I remember back to the early days when I got myself into a tizzy over the choosing of the right ones storebought versus the homemade ones and how to distribute these equally so as not to offend anyone. Politically correct was not even coined then yet I'm sure we all searched for the one most appropriate for each person.::::And this reminiscing brings back another memory of a shoebox that had to be decorated for a Sadie Hawkins Day dance. Once again the tizzie came back; the challenge was on to create the finest shoebox with a lunch inside for the highest bidder. Remember Ladies?::::Remember the dances we decorated, the sockhops? I'm sure I have the right school, don't I.?::::Then there were the adventures of the Band and the sargeanettes?? Was that the name? I'm not sure. The childhood memories are coming back gradually thanks to this website. ::It's a wonderful thing to have memories while still giving it our best shot forward.::As my friend always says "Living well is the best revenge."::::::

Brad,::::My Grandson made Valentine Cards for all his classmates (2nd Grade)and inside the Valentine Cards he put Football Trading Cards. It's raining and with nothing to do; I've added music to four of the site pages. GuestBook, Members, Graduations and Photos. It added 10 MB to the site and will cause those four site to download slower. Because I'm on cable, I don't notice the time. I need some feedback from some of you that are having trouble opening the pages. Also, the Disney Co. has rejected my take over bid. They are interested and want me to up it some. They want me to add nine zero to the end of my proposal. That's no problem. I have lots of zeros.

Feb 17, 2004 at 13:11:02 Ellie (Fla.)
David, does the music come in automatically similiar to Musak or do I press a button, is it hum along?

Feb 18, 2004 at 08:47:56 JimG (Tulare)
Dave,::::If your bid for Disney is completed make sure it includes a sound system . . . Can't hear anything but it does take longer to download. Who knows maybe it is the DL . . . Damn Laptop.::::JimG::

Jim / Ellie can you hear the music on "Remember the Blood of Heroes" or "Through My Window" from the previous page? OK, the sun is out today time to finish off the guest room. I'll remove the music from the four pages. Sorry! Ellie at the least you can play videos on your computer. I'll email one of my favorites. You and Willie can watch it together. I'm sure Willie will enjoy it

Wow! We have had 23 relatives from Pat's family visiting us here in the desert to escape trhe snow of minnesota so I have been sorta busy. Most are gone now and others leave next week. They didn't all stay here with us but rented places. Lab report was good this last time and my head is cleared from futher cutouts. Now I will change doctors before they call me back again. Patty I hope Derold gets better each day and can come to our next get together. Ellie I do remember the card days and the fun we had in school. Dave, I thought I rescued Disney from financial troubles last year when we went to Orlando and spent more money on just 2 adults than I could imagine. Do they need more ? The class dues issue was to be voluntary for $15. So if anyone is so inclined send it to Vera. More later.WC

Feb 19, 2004 at 18:50:06 Dave (Baton Rouge)

Feb 24, 2004 at 14:12:30 Dave (Baton Rouge)
The book on Boswell bothered me every time it referred to Corcoran as a company town. To me Corcoran was an agriculture town. Most of the residence were involved directly or indirectly with farming. If there was one farmer in the town then it would be a company town. I lived and worked in Corcoran for about 5 years after leaving the army and worked for a deep well pump company. About 90% of the work was agriculture. Of that, only about 10% of the agriculture work was done for Boswell and Salyers. The rest was a huge list of farmers. Rosemary's dad worked for Boswell and to make sure I knew what I was talking about, I asked her if she thought Corcoran is a company town? She said,"Yes, it is!" So there you have it.

Feb 24, 2004 at 17:49:26 BillyC (IN/OH)
From as far back, to my ealiest memories, my father worked at Boswell's until he quit and we moved to Texas when I was in the 3rd grade, we came back in March the next year, and he went back to work for Boswell. Up until he went to Corcoran Implement sometime later. When I was in New Haven, in the late 50's there was a article in Time magazine about the farm subsidy program, and they listed the top 5 companies in the US - Boswell and Salyer's made the top 5. Maybe the writer of the book thought it was a company town, but it looks like it was a two company town, at least. Of course my earliest memories are of peddling a little red fire wagon up and down the sidewalk in from the the home we rented on Whitley and riding to the park it back of the place and playing in the wading pool.

Feb 26, 2004 at 08:32:59 JimG (Tulare)
Hi everyone,::::I remember my first job in Corcoran was a summer job for Crocket & Gambogy checking grain out in the lake bottom. My Mom lined up the jobs for Stan, Wayne and myself. I remember every time driving to work in my 37 Oldsmobile that if a highway patrolman went by he would turn around and stop me because I was so small then that I could barely see over the steering wheel even with a pillow to sit on. So I guess Dave might be correct in that there were many different farmers in the farming community . . . Now remember Rosemary I said he MIGHT be right!::::JimG::\

Feb 26, 2004 at 10:16:06 Dave (Baton Rouge)
Since Boswell has purchased Salyers and Gambogy, I guess you can say it is a company town today. I don't know where you would put Boyett, Hansen, Gilkey or all the other local large farmers. Any would be the largest farmer in Ohio. You mention the Corcoran Implement. Did you know the owners were mostly local farmers? Boswell or Salyers were not involved. There was a feud between Boswell and Salyers. I interview with Boswell just before graduating from Fresno State. When they discovered my Grandfather had been Salyers top man for years and my Uncle still worked for Salyers, the interview abruptly ended. Jim I remember the Olds. I remember you couldn't keep a windshield in it. Oh yea, the summers in the lake bottom. I started working in the grain harvest when I was 12.

Feb 26, 2004 at 13:28:46 BillyC (In/Oh)
Large farms in In or Oh? They don't even have counties in these places as large as Boswell or Salyers farmlands. They were larger than several states. My first job was for Salyers out a grain loading place South of town, I lasted two days and got fired for being to small to climb into the back of the trucks quick enough. It wasn't much fun working in the sun when its over 100 degrees in long sleeve shirts. The Air Force was a lot easier.

Feb 28, 2004 at 08:27:10 BRAD (VISALIA)
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE. I WENT TO SEE THE PASSION THURSDAY NIGHT. IT IS AWESOME. HAS ANYONE ELSE SEEN IT? I DID NOT SEE ANYTHING CONTROVERSIAL ABOUT IT. IT WAS ME. GOOD MORNING EVERYONE THIS IS YOUR SELF APPOINTED PASTOR FOR THE CORCORAN CLASS OF '56. I WISH WE HAD A WORLD CLASS SUPER CHRISTIAN, BUT SINCE NONE HAS STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE, I APPOINTED MYSELF. I WROTE A LITTLE EXPLANATION FOR MEL GIBSON'S MOVIE THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST. IF ANYONE WOULD CARE TO READ IT, YOU CAN FIND IT ON MY WEB SITE AT THE ADDRESS http://hometown.aol.com/bgg721/myhomepage/index.html MAYBE DAVE COULD MAKE IT HOT SO YOU COULD GO THERE WITH ONE CLICK. OTHERWISE, YOU COULD COPY AND PASTE IT IN YOUR WEB ADDRESS SPACE. MY JOB IS TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE MAKES IT TO HEAVEN. THERE WILL BE NO PRESSURE, BUT I THERE WILL BE REMINDERS. HAVE A GREAT SUNDAY WITH GOD'S BLESSINGS. LOVE BRAD

Feb 29, 2004 at 12:39:03 Ellie (Fla.)
Brad, I do indeed, admire YOUR passion. Passion in any form shows great strength, but for myself, I'm having a little trouble over the controversy. Having followed the opinions of Christians and Jews there is more here to analyse than just the religious aspect. I'm awaiting more comments tonite and I will see the film myself, quietly and studiously. Thank you for having all of us in your prayers. :: Sincerely, Ellie

BILL AND PATTY, BLESS YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH. YOU MADE ME CRY. THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS. AND, OUR PRAYERS DO COUNT. OUR LITTLE GIANNA IS DOING WELL TODAY. I TALKED TO ROBERT THIS MORNING. HE SAID I KNEW SHE WOULD BE ALL RIGHT. THAT'S WHY I CALLED TO HAVE YOU PRAY. AS YOU SAID PATTY, IT'S GOOD TO SEE GOD'S HAND AT WORK. THERE IS A REASON FOR EVERYTHING. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU BILL & SONJA AND DAROLD & PATTY. HOPEFULLY IN PISMO THIS NOV. LOVE BRAD

Brad and Bev, I am sorry to hear about your great granddaughter, She is in our prayers too. But if it is Navy hospital, they do a good job with things. Great granddaughter, Huh. I can't even get my sons married off, so I guess we'll never see one of those, or the other kind. We went from single digit weather to 50's and 60's in two days, but it feels colder now, strange isn't it.

Mar 4, 2004 at 22:09:36 BRAD (VISALIA)
HELLO CLASSMATES, OUE LITTLE GREAT GRAND BABY IS DOING WELL NOW. THANK YOU BILLY AND ALL OF THE REST OF YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS. YES BILLY, SHE IS IN THE NAVY HOSPITAL THERE AT PENDELTON. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL, THEY ARE GIVING THEM VERY GOOD CARE. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR PRAYERS. LOVE BRAD

Mar 5, 2004 at 13:13:03 BillyC (IN)
Great news, Brad. Glad to hear she is doing okay. When my younger son was born, his older brother was only 13 months old. When I took to the DL in to the hospital, They had a real fit since I was carrying #1,and they sent me home cause I couldn't have him there with Mom,too. It was about 3:00am, and I had to drive him around in his baby seat to get him back to sleep. When I finally got home and him back in bed, the hospital called and said they had to do an emergency caesarian on the DL because #2's umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck, and his heart rate had dropped from 200 to 60, so they went ahead and did the operation without my authorization. Anyway, things all worked out okay but the DL was really pissed at me for the zipper in her belly. She may have gotten over it by now.

Mar 6, 2004 at 01:27:14 Jacqueline (San Luis Obispo)
I'm back.........! Finally figured out how to do the update myself. My computer wizkid keeps postponing his visit. I've been able to read but not add my thoughts. Brad was here for dinner Wednesday night. We are making plans and hope to have you all help make the final decision at the mini reunion this fall. Talk about small worlds, I loaned my Boswell book to a good friend after I read it and made all kinds of notes in it. He asked me if I knew Don Gilkey, seems he played football at Cal with Don.

Mar 9, 2004 at 21:12:48 Dave (Baton Rouge)
The weather here has really been nice. Blue sky and 72 degrees temperature. It hit 81 one day. We have flowers coming out all around. But, it is going to rain tomorrow, then the temperature will drop. The guest room is complete. The new patio is built in my head. Now, after the old one is torn-down, I need make a material list and put it together. Been a lot of people coming to the site. Need some to stop and tell us what they think and/or where to go.

Mar 10, 2004 at 14:29:40 BillyC (In)
I agree with Dave, I hit the 100 mark the other day, and now it's in the 80's really quick. Say something, it doesn't have to be importent, lord knows I put enough stuff here that doesn't mean anything. We hit 70 Saturday, it was 24 last night, upper 40s today, going back up Saturday, back down on Sunday - Spring in the midwest. We had 45 - 50 mph winds over the weekend, no storms, just blowy.

Mar 10, 2004 at 16:50:46 Ellie (Fla.)
You really want to know about weather? How about this. We were in the pool yesterday, glorious! And as soon as the tourists leave we can go back to the beach. I needed to turn the pool heater on just a bit because if it isn't hovering around 85 I can't stand it. I don't know what happened to the person who used to swim in the lakes of Canada Wilderness with never a care. Just roll out of the tent, a little bear grease,a shot of juice and you're in. Just seconds and you're numb, paralysed, in pain, but the whole ordeal is definitely worth it in the name of invigorating and getting the day started at 6am. All that was in another life. I loved it!::The plants are doing well. There are impatiens in different colors and all the jungley greens, bird of paradise just bloomed, geraniums are in windowboxes. There really is no down time for growing. Something is always available to bloom, which helps your spirit and your health.::Very soon all the northerners will begin to sprout, the birds come back to sing their song, having rehearsed elsewhere for the winter and the sun will shine brightly again giving warmth and that wonderful feeling of well-being just as you've burned your last piece of firewood.

Mar 11, 2004 at 10:28:30 BillyC (In/Oh)
Thanks for the warm up, Ellie. It's in the 30's, a miserable blowy drizzle making it sloppy outside right now. Fortunlately, the last snow storm went South of us and hit North Carolina - Hah.

Mar 11, 2004 at 16:55:33 BillyC (In/Oh)
That was this morning, it's now 54 and sunny, going down to 20 degrees with snow and rain tonight. Yeah, I love Midwestern Weather.

Mar 11, 2004 at 23:13:21 BillyC (In/Oh)
Whoa, is it cold again outside. And I thought the wea in San Antonio was weird. It is in the lower 20's, going all the way up to the 30's tomorrow, 50's the next day, then up in the 60's on Sunday. I guess it's better than single digits for over 10 days in a row.

Mar 12, 2004 at 01:04:11 Jacqueline (SLO)
Speaking of weather, Tuesday it was 79, Wednesday 84 in SLO and 86 in Morro Bay, 91 in Santa Barbara! Today ait was 83. It is making the weeds grow soooooo fast. The orchard is the worst, this year Jose is in charge so let it grow. Ellie you are lucky my impatients don't do good until May or June. We get some frost and they are gone so I replant every year. Billy the mid west sounds like it's cold all the time. What do you do for excitement? I hope you've started writing your book, you've had so many adventures it would be interesting to read.::Having lunch with Gordon Lu, going to see if he might have room for t\some of the class for breakfast or lunch....Betty G. asked me if I'd check. Knowing Gordon he'll move something around. Gordon has alread gifted several schools with his profit from his book. He's setting up a scolarship fund to help Children in the area. He speaks to all kinds of groups and still runs his restaurant 7 days a week. ::Ellie, we still have the Polar Bear swim on New Year's day in Cayucos, it's usually about noon it might remind you of your Canadian swims Next year I have to do it because I lost a bet, I'm sure I can since a friend who is 80 does it every year. bye...Bob wants me to click on the cat house.

Mar 12, 2004 at 09:45:31 BillyC (In/Oh)
Well, it made it into the teens last night, up to 38 later on today. The last night we were in Madrid, the DL and I spent a while in the Atocha train station, where we also caught the subway back to the hotel. It really is a shame that people have to do these nasty things. The station there was even nicer by far that Grand Cenral Station in New York City.

I probably don't need to ask but I'm curious. Who is Gordon Lu? Is he a classmate?

Ellie talking about the plants in Fort Myers reminds me of a trip we made last year to Marie Shelby Gardens in Sarasota Florida. It is an open-air and under-glass museum of thousands of orchids and bromeliads. The place is, if you are not living in Florida, an out door garden of indoor plants. You can stroll winding pathways along Sarasota Bay. There are Banyans trees, Mangroves grow in flooded saltwater areas. Hibiscus bloom there throughout the year. There are more than 2,500 species of palms. The bromeliads are huge and growing up in the trees. The Shelby's were the major owners of Texaco and this was a vacation home.

Wow! Take a trip for a week and one gets so far behind the classmates it is hard to catch up. Brad i am so glad your new ggd is doing well. I said a prayer for her continued improvement. I just found out that I will be a ggp soon so it is special to me that we are sharing this together as we shared so many events in the early years in Corcoran.Pat and I went to Donner Lake to hire a good conntractor to start our repairs on the cabin and I feel we got a good one. We drove back on 395 and saw the snoe covered Sierras at their best. 300 hundred miles of eyepopping vistas! Alas, while we were away the weather turned to the 90's and some of Pat's flowers didn't survive. That seems to be a rout9ine thing with us. GArdening in the desert is just digging holes and putting money in them. Only the cacti love this place. Jackie, who is the friend from Cal, I might know him also. I hope all of you are doing well. This is fun to keep in touch this way.

Hey, Jacque, it was 19 last night, but it is near 50 now, but our weeds are still green and growing here, too. They don't wait til it's in the 80's.

Hi Ellie, It looks like you are stuck at the bottom of the page. I decided to step in and bail you out. Now I'm stuck down here unless someone else can help me. Remember everyone: mail your $15 class donation to Vera and reserve a room in Pismo Beach.

Hi everyone,::::We have been busy the past 6 weeks trying to follow Wayne & Pat's ordeal at their Donner Lake home. Our mobile home in Pismo received major damage by a high wind storm in early February and now it is our turn to find contractor's etc. like they are having to do. We are having to travel back and forth almost every weekend to try to get things back to normal. As of now almost everything is in place to get things started. Talk to everyone later.::::JimG::

This is a private message to David and Rosemary posted on the site because I cannot reach them. Do not read this . David , I need to contact you about my trip to New Orleans and the emails keep coming back. Streshly thinks I am computer ignorant so please don't tell him I had to go to the public arena to find you. Other classmates please do not read this message. Dave send me your email. Please.

Good thinking. If you don't want someone to read a entry, just put "do not read" on it.

Wayne, I love it, Do you stop and ask for directions when your lost? I have been out real estate hunting for the past week with a friend from San Diego. If anyone is waiting to buy a place anywhere between Oceano and Cambria, you might be too late. Scott made an offer of 575k cash on a property listed at 609k and all they did is laugh. The sales price is the start price for a bid war. If you own property in Cayucos, Morro Bay, Cambria, Pismo etc. go ride around and see what is selling for over 1/2 a million. Within the year most beach property, including a pup tent with a butane burner will be over a million. About the Mini reunion this fall... How many of you are coming early? There is a reason for the question, let me know.!!

What do you mean "Early". I will be visiting my sister, Florence, and expect to be in the area for a couple of weeks.

Mar 24, 2004 at 18:42:31 Jacqueline T. (SLO)
Halloween is what I mean by early, thought there might be a few who would like to "trick or treat"!

Good Morning,::Sounds like everyone is doing well. Ellie, I seem to get caught up in your comments, I feel like I'm reading a novel. Good work. Yes Wayne, I certainly would not think of reading a "please do not read" comment. However I do agree with Bill.::We're looking forward to the Mini Reunion, we have:: dinner arrangements completed for a setdown dinner on Tues. and Nate is working on the bar-b-que. for Mon. afternoon. Pray for good weather. ::We've been busy traveling from one end of the state to the other to see our grandson play baseball. He plays for Menlo College and they do spend a lot of time on the road. ::Hope all is well with everyone.::::See you::Betty::::::::

Sid,::::I finally figured a way to get Sid to write a note . . . I need to know when you Grandson is playing anywhere close so I can take my Grandson to watch the game with you guys. This is a pickoff play at first like a couple of years ago when we played little league in Corcoran.::::JimG::

Mar 29, 2004 at 10:31:26 BRAD (VISALIA)
GOOD LUCK JIM. HELLO CLASSMATES. YESTERDAY WE WENT TO VICTORVILLE TO SEE OUR GREAT GRAND DAUGHTER. BEVERLY WAS AT THE HOSPITAL THE DAY AFTER SHE WAS BORN, BUT IT WAS MY FIRST SIGHT OF HER. WE FELL IN LOVE. SHE HELD MY HAND. (MAYBE PICS ON THE SNAPSHOT PAGE) HOW EXCITING. WAYNE, THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO. AND, I'M SURE MANY MORE OF YOU WILL (OR ALREADY ARE) GET TO SHARE THE JOY OF BEING A GREAT GRAND PARENT. LOVE BRAD

Mar 29, 2004 at 14:22:37 David (Baton Rouge)
Its raining! We haven't had rain in 10 days. I hope the drought is over. Jim, I think you'd have better luck smearing garlic on a weir wolf. Went to the store to pick up some pinto bean. The check-out lady wanted to know what we did with pinto beans. I said you made chili beans with them. Will I never heard of that she said. I started to say thats the way its done in California, but I knew better. Added pictures of Brad's Great Grad Daughter to the site. One in family and one on his page.

Mar 29, 2004 at 15:41:50 BillyC (In/Oh)
What else would you do with Pinto Beans????

Mar 29, 2004 at 23:30:15 BillyC (In/Oh)
Oh yeah, While I was growing up in Corcoran, Mom used to feed us pinto beans and cornbread at least 2 to 3 times a week. It was my favorite growing up.

Mar 30, 2004 at 17:54:53 David Gilbert (Baton Rouge)
Hey Billy, in the book about JG Boswell, the liberal writers said after a generation in Corcoran, we all talked with a Okie twang. They missed that we all ate Okie food. Pinto beans and corn bread. Next time you are in New England, try buying pinto beans in a grocery store.

Mar 30, 2004 at 18:03:04 BillyC (Brookville,IN)
I guess if my parents and siblings came from Texas, with me being the first of the Californians, their pinto beans and cornbread were different than the Okies?

Mar 30, 2004 at 18:18:21 Ellie (Fla.)
Well, finally there's a topic that I can jump right into and with relish. The humble bean family. David, New England is beantown. I'd imagine that pintos are costly there, considered an exotic.::Well, My Gramma, may she rest in peace, made a dish called Tzimmis. Good for hanging wallpaper! I offered a lima bean to the children once and they went on strike. ::::I put a bean up my nose as a child and caused hysteria in my family.::I created a masterpiece mosaic from assorted beans, made maracas, used them as pie crust weights, used them as currency for games. But my favorite is the navy bean with a smoked ham hock the size of a football. Anytime folks, anytime.

Mar 30, 2004 at 19:50:36 David Gilbert (Baton Rouge)
Yes, New England is bean town, but the beans are all baked. We had some friends from Vermont over once and fixed boiled beans. They were dumb founded. Boiled Beans!!! There is a Middle Eastern dish made from garbanzo / chip peas beans they mash-up and make a dip. They call it Hummus. You use pita bread as the dipper and the hummus as the dippie. It also would make good wall paper adhesive. Tzimmis is sweeter than hummus and is a Yettish / Labanese dish and also used as a dip for pita bread. We once tried to boil a bean called fava. After 2 1/2 days of boiling you couldn't cut them with a jack-hammer. Ellie, tell us about your brownies.

Mar 30, 2004 at 23:12:36 BillyC (B'ville, IN)
Well, Beans to y'all. They don't have pinto beans in New England, that I know of, Dave. In my entire time there, I never met a bean I could like. Besides the staple pintos, we had navy beans also, Ellie, And black eyed peas - both dried and freshly shelled, cooked the same as the pintos, with out the chili powder. I ran into a similar dish in turkey that was same as navy beans, only with tomato sauce. I even cooked some for the DL and the boys, once. They were inedible.

Mar 30, 2004 at 23:20:27 wcrow (palm desert)
Beans!! I know we all qualify as experts on beans in most any form but the "pinto" was always on our table, boiled with or without any bones or hocks. Cornbread and beans remains one of my favorites today. The cornbread must be made not bought in a box. I could take a piece of Moms' cormbread to school in my pocket and it would still be ready to eat at lunch. Box cornbread will crumble on your plate before you eat it. WE have found Santa Maria beans to be a good boiling bean if pintos are not around. Could we have some of these beans in Pismo?

Mar 31, 2004 at 11:47:46 Betty Grant (Visalia)
Good Morning,::Pinto Beans and Cornbread is a very favorite meal at our house. We do not have it as often as we did growing up, now it is a treat. Just made navy bean soup over the weekend. ::Maybe we can have Santa Maria beans at our reunion since it is so close to Santa Maria we should be able to pull that off.::Jim, Atherton is as close as our grandson's baseball games will be. If you go to the Menlo College website under sports-mens baseball, this week is his picture and a article of his 2 homeruns last Thrusday. Sorry we missed that game.::::Waiting for up date on brownies. Hope David still has the ingredients out on the counter so he can get to his baking right away.::::Have a good day::::Betty

Mar 31, 2004 at 16:50:52 Ellie (Fla.)
You guys are hilarious! Is that enough about beans? Wayne, so you want your own buffet in Pismo. Talking cornbread! My cornbread is more smooth and cakelike with a hint of bacon, very moist, fine grained, not crumbly or dry. I make it once a week. Yes, David, you've got it down right. Yiddish is the proper spelling and now you have to branch out and make Baba Ganousj. It's easy, lowcal, and a delicious appetizer. Made from eggplant. Pita is the scooper.::Yes,yes, I must get back to the Brownies! I'll have to Fedex this cause I can't schlep all this on a plane.:: ::Will someone be kind enough to tell me where I'm going. No smart cracks. You know I have a black belt. With rhinestones yet. There's plenty of time. So if someone could get back to me by September, That would be nice. I love this site. Thanks David.

Mar 31, 2004 at 18:30:12 BillyC (B'ville,IN)
Enough with the beans?? Never. Dave, there is a fastfood restaurant chain in Cincinnati owned by Dave Parker, former Pittsburgh Pirate and Cincinnati Red. It's a fried chicken place, but they had a side dish - Red Beans and Rice. The beans are as close to pinto beans I remember frpm back then. I haven't found any cornbread and beans yet. They had cornbread in Boston Market, another chicken place but no beans. Now, fried okra - that's another thing I remember from back then. I found that in a fried fish chain - Captain D's - that make just like back then.

Okay, enough beans. Okra, ok. How about the nasty stuff they put in the coffee in Louisiana? I was visiting Slidell in 1962 when we went to breakfast. The waitress asked me if I wanted my coffee with or without. I said, "with." I thought I had been poisoned. That was terrible. at Waffle House anywhere you can get hominy grits with your eggs, but I pass on those, too.

Betty,::::What is the website address . . . couldn't find it on Menlo College men's sports. Maybe Sid knows? Better have you send it. By the way "what about Portagee beans?"::::JimG::::

Apr 2, 2004 at 16:41:32 BillyC (B'ville/in)
Chicory - That's what that poison was in the coffee in Louisana.

Apr 4, 2004 at 22:43:24 BillyC (B'viile)
No beans tonite. Today, Indiana, for the most part, is now on Slow Time - Eastern Standard Time, not Eastern Daylight Savings time. It is now 10:37 in Cincinnati time, 9:37 in Indiana time. The farmers in Indiana are a very strong body politic here in Indiana. Now I will have to explain this to half of our customers when they want to get up at 7:00 am EDT, not 6:00 am EST. Life is fun on the stateline.
